Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) in Canada has unveiled an unprecedented course dedicated to the singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh, marking his global cultural and musical influence. This comes in the wake of Diljit getting widespread criticism for casting Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his upcoming film ‘Sardaar Ji 3’.
It has been learnt that the course will be introduced later in 2026, which will explore Diljit’s work in music, pop culture, and others. This is the first time that a Canadian university has made a Punjabi artist the centerpiece of an academic programme.
According to reports in the Canadian media, the course of study will examine how Diljit’s music connects cultures, mobilises South Asian communities, and promotes creative entrepreneurship.

Meanwhile, his new venture, ‘Sardaar Ji 3’, has caused outrage in India. The movie is to be released overseas on June 27, with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir joining Diljit, who is also a producer. Pakistani actors Nasir Chinyoti and Daniel Khawar are also part of the cast, a move for which Diljit has been subjected to a flood of criticism during a time of growing tensions between India and Pakistan after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 civilians dead.
Reports suggest that the trailer of ‘Sardaar Ji 3’, posted by Diljit on Instagram, is blocked in India and YouTube. Moreover, this is not the first time Dosanjh has been mired in controversy.
