New iPhone 17 launches next week and its rumoured price may surprise you

There’s just one week to go until Apple unveils its next batch of iPhones. The US technology giant recently confirmed that it will hold a major launch event on Tuesday September 9 with a trio of new devices expected to be unveiled at the famous Steve Jobs theatre at Apple’s HQ in Cupertino. The big showcase will get underway from 6pm BST and it could be one of the most exciting in years.

Rumours suggest that, along with upgrades to the iPhone and iPhone Pro, fans will also get their first glimpse of an iPhone 17 Air.

This gadget is expected to be wafer-thin, feature a massive display and offer a more pocket-friendly design – it could be a bit like the skinny Galaxy S25 Edge, which was released earlier this year.

Full details will be confirmed next week, but ahead of the grand unveiling, there have been some whispers about how much things will cost this year, and there’s good and bad news.

Firstly, let’s kick off with the good news. A report from 9to5mac suggests that the upcoming iPhone 17 will cost exactly the same as the current iPhone 16. That means fans might be able to grab one for just £799.

Sadly, those wanting the new Air or fancy going Pro might face a bigger bill in 2025.

Rumours suggest that the iPhone 17 Air will cost £50 more than the iPhone 16 Plus – which it’s thought it will replace. If true, the Air may set users back £949.

If it’s a Pro device that’s on your wishlist, things could also get more expensive with experts suggesting that the standard Pro and Pro Max will also both go up by £50.

That means prices could start from over £1,040.

Of course, these are just rumours for now and Apple won’t reveal anymore details until the event kicks off on September 9.

Express.co.uk will be bringing you all the news live from Apple Park in Cupertino so watch this space if you are due an upgrade this year.
