India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma recently lifted the lid on some dressing room memories, recalling the light-hearted moments he has shared with former opener Shikhar Dhawan. Speaking at an event, the 37-year-old was asked who he turned to in the Indian team for jokes and laughter. Initially, Rohit said he got along with everyone and that there wasn’t one particular player. But with a smile, he later revealed, “There isn’t just one person; I get along with everyone. But I think for laughter, Shikhar Dhawan is the funniest.”

The pair have shared a long-standing bond at the top of India’s batting order, most memorably during their prolific partnership in ODI tournaments. Dhawan, with his sharp wit and comic timing, has often been seen lightening the mood in the dressing room, something Rohit acknowledged fondly. During the same event, Rohit was also asked which bowler he would most like to hit for six. His answer reflected the confidence that has defined his batting career. “Honestly, everyone! I’d love to hit all of them. There’s no particular one. My mindset is always the same — I just want to hit, doesn’t matter who’s in front of me,” he said, drawing laughter from the audience. He clarified, however, that his intent has always been about scoring runs and maintaining an aggressive approach irrespective of the opposition. That mindset has been central to his success across formats, where he built a reputation for turning starts into big scores.

Who do you think is the funniest player/former player in the Indian cricket team?

Rohit, who retired from T20Is in 2024 after leading India to a World Cup title and stepped away from Tests earlier this year, remains India’s go-to batter in the 50-over format. In 273 ODIs, he has scored 11,168 runs at an average of 48.76, including 32 centuries. Currently focused solely on ODIs, Rohit is expected to return to action in the upcoming three-match series against Australia in October.
