Kapil Sharma gets security cover from Mumbai police after 2 firings at his cafe

The Mumbai Police have granted security to comedian and television host Kapil Sharma after two shooting incidents at his recently opened cafe in Surrey, Canada. The most recent assault took place in the Newton neighbourhood early on Thursday.

According to a statement from the Surrey Police Service (SPS), “At approximately 4:40 am on August 7, SPS Frontline officers responded to a report of shots fired outside a business in the 8400 block of 120 Street.” Although the police did not officially name the establishment, Canadian media outlets have widely reported that the targeted venue was Sharma’s Kap’s Café.

After a similar shooting on Sunday, this incident is the second attack on the cafe in less than a month. Although no injuries were reported in either case, the comedian and his company are now seriously concerned about their security due to the attacks’ recurrent nature.

Both shootings are under investigation by Surrey Police, who are looking into any possible links between them and any larger criminal activity occurring in the area. In an attempt to expand his business in Canada, Kapil Sharma, a 43-year-old television personality best known for ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’, opened Kap’s Café earlier this year.

Sources indicate that Sharma has been in contact with Canadian authorities and is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

The first shooting in July, which occurred just days after the cafe’s grand opening, saw several gunshots fired at the establishment. Police had initiated an investigation into that incident as well, and no one was injured. Following that attack, at least 10 bullet holes were observed in one of the cafe’s windows, while another windowpane was completely shattered. The building housing the cafe has retail units on the ground floor and residential apartments above, though the number of residents is not known.

The recent shooting has intensified worries about a potential surge in targeted violence. Authorities are continuing their investigation amid unverified online claims that the attacks may be linked to gang activity.
