Surprise Samsung Galaxy update may tempt you to ditch your Android phone for good

After weeks of waiting we finally know what’s next for Samsung’s lineup of foldable Galaxy phones. The Korean company revealed its latest Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 during one of its famous Unpacked events in New York, with both getting new designs, faster processors, better screens and improved cameras. The Z Flip has also been popped on a serious diet and is now thinner than ever, which makes it easier to pop in pockets. Meanwhile, the Z Flip7 gets a bigger cover screen, which should help to make it far more useful.

There is no question that these are stellar upgrades, but they still aren’t cheap. The Z Flip7 starts from £1,049 and the Z Fold7 costs at least £1,799. Ouch!

If that sounds like way too much for your bank account to cope with, don’t panic. Along with that duo of new bendables, Samsung has also announced the surprise release of another Android smartphone called the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE (Fan Edition).

For those not in the know, Samsung’s popular FE models are much cheaper than their more premium siblings, and this is the first time we’ve seen this FE branding coming to the Flip range.

This latest device will start from £849. That’s £200 less than the standard version and makes owning a flexible phone feel a lot more affordable.

It doesn’t feature the more expansive cover screen found on its more expensive sibling, but you still get a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED display for checking texts, snapping photos and answering calls.

When you need more room for content, viewing emails and surfing the web, the device flips open to reveal a bigger 6.7-inch Main Display.

Other features on the FE include a dual camera with 50MP lens, wireless charging, decent battery life and an Exynos processor from Samsung. No, it can’t match the Galaxy Z Flip7 on specs and performance but it is a lot less of a drain on your bank account.

It will be available in Black and White from later this month.

Speaking about the new phones, Annika Bizon, Mobile Experience VP of Product and Marketing, Samsung UK & Ireland, said: “The beauty of the Galaxy Z Flip7 is you don’t have to compromise between pocket-friendly portability and flagship power.

“The Galaxy Z Flip7 brings together the most advanced Galaxy AI capabilities, an immersive FlexWindow and an ultra-compact design, proving that the foldables category is a long way from reaching its limit.”
