Urgent Samsung Galaxy alert – check your phone today or face a big hidden cost

There’s only a few hours left until Samsung reveals its all-new range of shiny smartphones. The Korean technology giant is holding a major Unpacked launch event in New York where we expect to see a swathe of devices shown to the world including new Z Flip and Z Fold models. These will almost certainly be faster, smarter and come packed with upgrades along with getting a refreshed design.

It’s an exciting day ahead, with the grand unveiling taking place at 10am local time – that’s 3pm BST.

Although this global event will be great for anyone wanting a new bendable call maker, it’s not such good news for those who already own a Galaxy Z Flip or Z Fold.

Resale experts at SellCell are predicting that second hand values for current devices will plummet once the new models go on sale.

“Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event will be held on July 9, 2025, where the tech giant is expected to unveil its latest foldables — the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7,” SellCell explained.

“Whilst this is great news for fans who are looking for new features, owners of older Fold and Flip models could be weeks away from losing out. Phone values are predicted to plummet post launch.”

SellCell says that when the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 are announced later today, it’s highly likely that older models will begin losing value immediately.

It’s predicted that some devices could drop by as much as 14.4 percent once the latest foldables are revealed on stage at Unpacked with the biggest loser expected to be the Galaxy Flip 6 256GB.

If you own a Flip or Fold and are looking to upgrade to a new model, then the advice seems pretty clear, and you should probably start the process of trading in as soon as possible to get the maximum value.

“If you’re holding onto a Galaxy Z Fold or Flip and thinking about upgrading, the time to act is now,” SellCell added.

“Historical trends, real data, and future forecasts all point to one thing — waiting even a few weeks after launch could hit you in the pocket when you come to upgrade.

“Don’t get caught out. Lock in your trade-in while prices are high — and make the most of your upgrade.”

It is worth noting that Samsung usually offers some very competitive trade in deals for those happy to upgrade to the latest models. More news on those deals should be confirmed soon.

Express.co.uk will be at Unpacked in New York and will bring you all the news live as it happens so watch this space.
