Surrey County Cricket Club on Monday etched their name into the history books by posting a staggering 820/9 declared — the highest team total in the club’s history, surpassing the previous mark of 811 set back in 1899. The monumental feat came on Day 2 of their County Championship Division One clash against Durham at The Oval.Opener Dom Sibley led the charge with an epic 305 off 475 balls, anchoring Surrey’s innings with a masterclass in concentration and timing. Not to be outdone, Will Jacks smashed 119 off just 94 balls, striking 8 fours and 4 sixes to ensure Surrey made the most of a fatigued Durham bowling unit. The scoreboard made for tough reading for Durham’s bowlers — none more so than George Drissell, who endured a harsh spell of 1 for 247 in 45 overs. Will Rhodes emerged as the most successful bowler with 3 for 131.Durham, in response, ended Day 2 at 59/1, still trailing by a daunting 761 runs. Only Alex Lees (33 not out) showed early signs of resistance as Matthew Fisher claimed the lone wicket of Emilio Gay.

With three days left and a mountain to climb, Durham’s chances look bleak. Surrey, meanwhile, have all but guaranteed a commanding grip on the match, backed by one of the most dominant batting displays in English domestic cricket history. This was a day that belonged entirely to the hosts — and to Dom Sibley’s bat.
