As the first session on Day 5 of the first Test between India and England at Headingley drew to a close, there was little cheer in the Indian camp. The ball issue has been a recurring theme in the first Test. On Day 3, Rishabh Pant, who has been at the heart of India’s fight with the bat, was visibly agitated when his plea for a ball change was rejected. In a moment that sparked a backlash on social media, Pant hurled the ball aside in annoyance, drawing criticism from some former cricketers for what they deemed ‘unnecessary’.
