‘Longevity is an achievement’: Kieron Pollard becomes first to play 700 T20 matches, achieves feat during MLC

Kieron Pollard marked a major milestone in his glittering T20 career as he played his 700th T20 match during MI New York’s recent clash in Major League Cricket. Ahead of the game, the franchise shared a heartfelt video of the veteran West Indian reflecting on his journey and the motivation that still drives him. Pollard spoke candidly about his battles with injuries over the years, including a career-threatening eye injury in 2010 and two ACL tears. He credited his resilience to the support of his loved ones and his enduring passion for the game. “Longevity in the sport and to play 700 games in any format of cricket, I think in itself is an achievement. I have to give myself credit,” Pollard said.

He added that his biggest motivation now is his son, who loves seeing him on TV and pushes him to keep going. Pollard admitted that the years have made him slower between the wickets but his competitive spirit and desire to share knowledge with younger teammates keep him active in the game.Quiz: Who’s that IPL player? “I have enjoyed my time, my career and I think I have entertained a lot of people around the world,” he said. Pollard remains one of T20 cricket’s true pioneers and fan favourites, having played franchise cricket around the globe and captained the West Indies white-ball sides. With over 12,000 runs and more than 300 wickets in the format, ‘Polly’ shows no signs of stopping just yet.
