PV sales dipped 1%, two-wheelers grew 2.2% YoY in May: SIAM

Passenger Vehicle (PV) wholesales fell 0.8% year-on-year (YoY) to 3.45 lakh units in May 2025, according to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

As per the data, three-wheeler segment wholesales de-grew 3.3% compared with May 2024, with sales of 0.54 lakh units, while the two-wheeler segment grew by 2.2% in May 2025, as compared with May 2024, with a sales of 16.56 lakh units.

Among three-wheelers, the e-rickshaw segment witnessed the sharp YoY fall of 40.1% to 720 units and the e-cart segment fell 41.3% to 148 units.

Among two-wheelers, scooters grew 7.1% to 5,79,507 units, while the moped segment de-grew 7.7% to 37,264 units. 

The quadricycle segment saw a fall of 97% YoY to just one unit. 

“All vehicle segments posted stable performance in May 2025,” SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon said. “Going forward, the RBI’s three repo rate cuts totalling 100 basis points in less than six months, along with a forecast of above-normal monsoons are some of the indicators which should positively impact the auto sector by improving affordability and boosting consumer sentiment in the coming months,” he added.
