NEW DELHI: During their IPL encounter at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya and his squad received substantial penalties for slow over rate, whilst Gujarat Titans‘ head coach Ashish Nehra was sanctioned for behaviour “contrary to the spirit of the game”. SUBSCRIBE NOW!“As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined Rs 24 lakh,” according to the IPL statement.Each member of the MI squad, including impact player and concussion substitute, received fines of either Rs 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their match fees, whichever amount was lesser.

Whilst the IPL release did not specify Nehra’s transgression, the former fast bowler displayed visible agitation throughout the rain-interrupted match and was observed having animated exchanges with the on-field officials.“Ashish Nehra, Head Coach, Gujarat Titans, has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct,” the IPL announced.“He admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 – which pertains to the conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game – and accepted the match referee’s sanction,” the statement continued.The match referee’s verdict on Level 1 Code of Conduct breaches remains conclusive and binding.
