Karnataka government enterprise Mysore Sales International Ltd. (MSIL) is gearing up to launch its e-commerce platform to facilitate the sale of various products. The initiative aims to create a marketplace for government and private producers, similar to the Central government’s Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal.

Minister for Large and Medium Industries M.B. Patil, who held a meeting with senior officials and conducted discussions regarding the initiative, directed officials to prepare a roadmap for its implementation.

In four phases

“The platform will be developed in four phases. Once fully operational, government departments will be able to procure their stationery and other requirements without inviting tenders. Additionally, they can also use the platform to sell their products,” Mr. Patil said.

In the first phase, only MSIL products will be made available on the platform. The second phase will include products from various government enterprises such as Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd., Lidkar, Mysore Silk, Cauvery Emporium, and KMF (Nandini). The platform would also facilitate the sale of products from MSMEs and women’s self-help groups, the Minister said.

The third phase wold introduce consumer products and electronic products, while the final phase would include fresh and perishable goods, the Minister added. With nearly 900 million internet users in the country, the market conditions are highly favourable for e-commerce growth, he said.

The meeting was attended by MSIL managing director Manoj Kumar, director Chandrappa, and other officials.
