Elon Musk says Tesla will scale back Cybertruck manufacturing at its Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year to free up production capacity for the company’s autonomous Cybercab, signalling a shift in its manufacturing priorities.
Tesla plans to wind down Cybertruck production at its Gigafactory Texas around the middle of 2027 to make room for increased manufacturing of its autonomous Cybercab, CEO Elon Musk has said.
In a post on X, Musk announced that the electric vehicle maker would be scaling back Cybertruck production at its Texas facility to accommodate higher Cybercab output.
“Tesla will be winding down production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year to make room for increased Cybercab production,” Musk said.
The Cybercab, Tesla’s purpose-built autonomous vehicle, is central to Musk’s vision of building a large-scale driverless ride-hailing network. The vehicle is designed without traditional driving controls, including a steering wheel and pedals.
The move also comes as Tesla looks to expand its ambitions beyond conventional electric vehicle manufacturing and strengthen its position in the emerging autonomous transportation market.
Gigafactory Texas, one of Tesla’s major manufacturing facilities, plays a key role in the company’s vehicle production operations.
