Did Lacy misunderstand his Japan restaurant bill? Streamer reveals what actually happened

Twitch streamer Nick “Lacy” has finally explained the controversy surrounding his reported $12,000 restaurant bill in Japan. After facing criticism online, Lacy admitted that a language barrier made him believe he had to pay the entire amount, even though he later learned he only had to cover the extra food that had already been prepared. He also admitted that he joked about the situation during his livestream instead of correcting his earlier comments. Lacy has now apologised to the restaurant for the unwanted attention it received.

Lacy reveals why he thought he owed $12,000 at Japan restaurant

In a post on X on October 29, Lacy explained that he initially misunderstood what the restaurant staff told him because of the language barrier. He believed he was responsible for a bill worth around $12,000.According to Lacy, he even told the restaurant that he would cover the amount and asked the staff to give the extra food to families. Since his livestream had been interrupted, he left his assistant to handle the situation so he could return to streaming. However, things changed when he came back online. Still frustrated and believing he owed the full amount, Lacy started talking about the incident and joking about it with his viewers. He later discovered that he only had to pay for the extra food that had already been prepared, rather than the entire bill.Lacy admitted that he should have corrected his story after learning what had actually happened.“Where I went wrong was not correcting the story once I found out,” he wrote on X.He also admitted that he thought the situation was funny and never expected his comments to spread so widely online.

Lacy apologises to Japan restaurant after admitting he was trolling

Lacy also addressed the criticism he received after his comments went viral. He said he was not concerned about the hate directed at him but was worried about the effect his statements could have on the restaurant.“I never had bad intentions or intended for the restaurant to receive any hate,” Lacy explained. He also made it clear that the restaurant staff were not responsible for what happened. Instead, he accepted that both he and the people who placed the extra food orders were responsible for the situation. The streamer further revealed that he had reached out to the restaurant to make things right. He apologised for not explaining the situation sooner and for the unwanted attention his comments brought to the business. The controversy began during Lacy’s October 28 livestream from Japan, when viewers reportedly used a QR code connected to his table to place extra food orders. While the incident quickly became a major talking point online, Lacy’s latest statement has given viewers a clearer picture of his side of the story. He has now accepted that failing to correct his earlier comments was his biggest mistake.
