India’s manufacturing PMI surged to 55.1 in September from a five-year low of 52.8 in August, signalling a sharp recovery in factory activity, stronger orders and a revival in hiring.
India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections rose 14.7 per cent year-on-year to Rs 2,03,521 crore in September 2026, supported by higher domestic revenues and a sharp increase in GST collected on imports, according to provisional government data.
Gross GST revenue stood at Rs 2,03,521 crore in September 2026, compared with Rs 1,77,365 crore in the same month last year. After accounting for refunds, net GST revenue increased 18.1 per cent to Rs 1,76,520 crore in September, compared with Rs 1,49,517 crore a year earlier.
Domestic collections rise 10.1%
Gross domestic GST revenue rose 10.1 per cent to Rs 1,37,996 crore in September from Rs 1,25,334 crore a year earlier.
Within domestic collections, CGST rose to Rs 37,762 crore from Rs 33,645 crore, while SGST increased to Rs 45,363 crore from Rs 41,836 crore. IGST collections on domestic transactions rose to Rs 54,871 crore from Rs 49,853 crore.
GST revenue from imports recorded a sharper increase, rising 25.9 per cent to Rs 65,525 crore from Rs 52,031 crore in September 2025.
Refunds fall in September
Total GST refunds declined 3 per cent year-on-year to Rs 27,001 crore in September from Rs 27,848 crore a year earlier.
Domestic refunds fell 13.5 per cent to Rs 13,504 crore, while refunds related to exports through ICEGATE rose 10.2 per cent to Rs 13,497 crore.
Net domestic GST revenue increased 13.5 per cent to Rs 1,24,491 crore, while net customs GST revenue climbed 30.8 per cent to Rs 52,028 crore.
GST collections up 11.6% in April-September
For the first six months of 2026-27, gross GST collections rose 11.6 per cent to Rs 12,46,278 crore, compared with Rs 11,17,088 crore in the corresponding period of 2025-26.
Net GST revenue during April-September increased 10.4 per cent to Rs 10,66,116 crore, from Rs 9,65,455 crore a year earlier.
The government data also showed that post-settlement SGST revenue of states and Union Territories rose 14 per cent in September to Rs 92,075 crore, compared with Rs 80,962 crore in September 2025.
Among major states, Maharashtra recorded GST revenue of Rs 29,986 crore in September, up 15 per cent year-on-year, while Karnataka’s collections rose 16 per cent to Rs 13,884 crore. Gujarat recorded a 17 per cent increase to Rs 12,222 crore, and Uttar Pradesh posted an 18 per cent rise to Rs 8,882 crore.
