‘India, Belgium aim to double bilateral trade in 5 years’: PM Modi after talks with Bart De Wever

India and Belgium have agreed to work towards doubling bilateral trade over the next five years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday after holding talks with his Belgian counterpart Bart De Wever in New Delhi, as the two countries seek to give a broader economic and strategic push to their relationship.

The target comes as the two countries look to move beyond their traditional economic ties, dominated by diamonds, and expand cooperation in areas such as defence, clean energy, technology, investment and advanced manufacturing.

Bilateral trade stood at more than $13 billion in 2025-26, according to the Indian government. Achieving the target would take annual two-way trade to more than $26 billion over the next five years.
