Even as the National Conference has written to 52 leaders of political and religious outfits across the country, inviting them to join the party’s protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, BJP and Apni party in the UT has declined the invite while as PDP has said NC should have first consulted other parties on the move.
Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Sunil Sharma on Friday dubbed the ruling National Conference’s proposed protest at Jantar Mantar over the statehood issue as an “eye-wash”, saying the government was trying to “hide its failures” through such “theatrics”.
As NC has also invited the BJP’s J-K president Sat Sharma for joining the protest, the LoP said the BJP will not participate in the protest.”They have come up with new theatrics to hide their failures. I fail to understand why the people of J-K get attracted to their theatrics. They have enacted so many dramas for the last three generations. Now the third generation is enacting a drama at the Jantar Mantar. This is an eye-wash….”Sharma said in a press conference on Friday.
The BJP leader said it was unfortunate that when people seek answers, the government says they will go to Jantar Mantar and seek statehood. Asserting that the statehood will come through Parliament and not via Jantar Mantar, Sharma said his party will not participate in the proposed protest.
J&K’s Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari has also said he will not participate in the National Conference’s proposed protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, saying the party decided to hold the demonstration without consulting other political stakeholders.
Speaking to reporters at party headquarters here, Bukhari said the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood has always been part of his party’s agenda, but criticized the National Conference (NC) for what he described as a unilateral approach.”Why should I oppose them? We support the demand for statehood, but they have not followed a consultation process. We believe in consultation, not unilateral decisions,” he said.He confirmed receiving an invitation from the NC for the proposed protest but said he had not opened the letter and would not be attending the demonstration.
Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura has said the National Conference (NC) should have consulted all political parties before announcing its proposed Jantar Mantar protest, alleging that the decision was taken without taking other parties into confidence.
Hanjura said the NC had announced plans for the protest without first consulting other political parties. “The decision to hold the Jantar Mantar protest is entirely that of the NC. They did not take other political parties into confidence before announcing it. They should have consulted parties earlier,” he said.
