Has Shehzad Poonawalla left BJP? Here’s the truth behind rumors

Since Shehzad Poonawalla, Bharatiya Janata Party’s national spokesperson, removed the BJP from his bio on X (formerly Twitter), there are whispers of him leaving the party, but there is no official confirmation regarding the same. However, in his X bio, Poonawalla calls himself  a “lifelong follower” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Shehzad Poonawalla updated his X (formerly Twitter) profile bio, dropping the designation “National Spokesperson, BJP”. His updated bio reads: “Religion: Islam, Culture: Hindu, Ideology: Bhartiya. Author: GST Ki Yatra; Lifelong follower of PM Narendra Modi.”

The leader did not mention any reason behind updating his bio, which led to speculations of Poonawalla leaving the BJP due to “personal reasons”.

After quitting the Congress party in 2017 over a fallout regarding its leadership elections, Poonawalla joined the BJP and rose to become a national spokesperson. Known for his aggressive debate style and staunch support of PM Modi, he has been an outspoken critic of Congress and its top leadership, particularly Rahul Gandhi.
