Google has launched the Pixel 9a, putting an end to months-long speculation about the new iPhone 16e. The Pixel 9a marks the end of the visor, which has existed on Google’s flagship phones for generations. Google’s new smartphone also has a bigger display, the latest Tensor processor, and better water resistance. It also supports Google Gemini out of the box. But none of that adds to its price, unlike the iPhone 16e. Instead, it costs less than both Apple’s new affordable iPhone and its last generation.
The Pixel 9a costs ₹49,999 for the variant with 128GB of storage, while its 256GB storage model costs ₹56,999. The sale starts in April on Flipkart, Croma, and Vijay Sales, among others.
Arriving as a nemesis to the iPhone 16e, the Pixel 9a brings IP68 water resistance, supports AI features, and houses the flagship chip. It also has an ultrawide camera that the iPhone 16e lacks. The Pixel 9a also has a flush rear design instead of a visor seen on previous generation Pixel phones.
The Pixel 9a has a 6.3-inch Actua display with a full-HD+ resolution, an adaptive refresh rate between 60-120Hz, and a peak brightness of 2700 nits. It also has HDR support. A Google Tensor G4 processor, along with a Titan M2 security processor, offers the same performance as the more expensive Pixel 9 phones and supports Gemini-powered AI features. The Pixel 9a has just 8GB of RAM.
Its rear cameras include a 48MP main sensor and a 13MP ultrawide sensor, featuring support for optical image stabilisation and Super Res Zoom up to 8x. The front camera has a 13MP sensor with a 96.1-degree field of view. Google’s standard camera features for Pixel, such as Macro Focus, Add Me, Night Sight, Astrophotography, and Top Shot are available on the Pixel 9a. The phone can record videos in up to 4K 60fps quality. Launched with Android 15, the Pixel 9a is eligible for seven years of major OS, security, and Pixel Drop updates.
