Indian boxer Jadumani Singh Mandengbam moved into the men’s 55kg quarterfinals at the Commonwealth Games 2026 after defeating Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman by a unanimous 5-0 decision on Sunday. The convincing victory came on Kargil Vijay Diwas, making the win even more special for the 22-year-old, who dedicated it to India’s Kargil War heroes. After the bout, Jadumani said, “I dedicate my win to the Kargil heroes. I felt great winning against Pakistan. I will perform even better in the quaterfinals and secure a Gold for India.”His victory coincided with the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, when India honoured the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1999 Kargil War. Jadumani stayed in control throughout the contest against Rehman, earning all five judges’ votes to seal a comfortable win.The Manipuri boxer had already impressed in the opening round with another 5-0 win over Scotland’s Aaron Cullen. His latest victory takes him into the last eight, where he will fight on Tuesday for a place in the semifinals. A win in the quarterfinal will also guarantee him at least a bronze medal, as both losing semifinalists in Commonwealth Games boxing receive bronze.Jadumani, who won silver in the 50kg category at last year’s World Boxing Cup Finals before moving up to the 55kg division, has looked in excellent form with back-to-back unanimous victories. India also enjoyed success in other events on Sunday, with Mirabai Chanu winning her third straight Commonwealth Games gold in weightlifting, while Chanambam Rishikanta Singh and Raja Muthupandi claimed silver medals, adding to the country’s strong medal haul in Glasgow.
