Yuzvendra Chahal-Dhanashree Verma Divorce: The Bombay High Court has allowed the plea submitted by the cricketer-choreographer couple to waive off the six-month cooling period post-divorce. The court has directed a family court to decide on their divorce petition tomorrow, March 20. The news comes ahead of the Indian Premier League ( IPL ) season 18 which begins on March 22 and in which Yuzvendra Chahal plays for the Kings XI Punjab .
The High Court has directed the family court to expedite the decision on Yuzvendra Chahal’s-Dhanashree’s divorce, as the cricketer has claimed that he would be busy post March 21, owing to the IPL 2025. The eighteenth season of the tournament will commence on March 22 and the spinner is expected to join his team Kings XI Punjab for the same. As per Bar and Bench, the High Court counsel directed, “As petitioner 1 (Chahal) is a participant of IPL, learned counsel informs that he may not be available from 21st March, the learned judge family court is requested to decide petition by tomorrow.”

The publication also mentioned that the waiving of the six-month divorce period comes after the estranged couple has been living separately for two and a half years. Rubbishing all rumours, it is also being reported that both parties comply with the settlement of divorce. For the uninitiated, several media reports claimed that Dhanashree had demanded a massive amount of alimony from the cricketer.
Under the Section 13B(2) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 a couple who heads for divorce through mutual agreement is given a six-month cooling off time from the date of filing. This is done to ensure that the couple has not taken the decision in haste and to give them a chance to reconcile if possible. However, in 2017 the Supreme Court stated that the said period can be waived off in case there is no chance of reconciliation among the couple.
