India set to cross 300 GW non-fossil fuel capacity milestone soon: Pralhad Joshi – Firstpost

India is on the verge of crossing 300 GW of installed non-fossil fuel power capacity, marking a major milestone in its clean energy transition, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi said on Friday.

Speaking at the curtain-raiser of the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026, Joshi said the country’s installed non-fossil fuel capacity has grown from nearly 75 GW in 2014 to 297.36 GW at present.

“In the coming days, India will cross the landmark 300 GW of installed non-fossil fuel capacity. In a couple of weeks, PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana will also cross 50 lakh beneficiary households,” the minister said.

Highlighting the pace of India’s renewable energy expansion over the past decade, Joshi said solar power capacity has surged from around 2.8 GW in 2014 to 162 GW, a nearly 58-fold increase. Wind energy capacity has risen from 21 GW to 57.4 GW, while bioenergy capacity has increased from 8.1 GW to 12 GW. He added that domestic solar module manufacturing capacity has expanded from 2 GW to 200 GW, alongside significant growth in solar cell manufacturing.

Calling India’s renewable energy journey a testament to its execution capabilities, the minister said the country’s consistent delivery has strengthened its credibility on the global stage.

Joshi also announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026, scheduled to be held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, from November 2 to 5. The event will bring together governments, policymakers, investors, manufacturers, startups, researchers and clean energy companies from across the world. Invitations have been extended to 34 countries to participate in the summit.

Inviting global investors to India’s clean energy sector, the minister said the country offers one of the world’s fastest-growing renewable energy markets with significant opportunities across the value chain.

The summit will feature an exhibition of renewable energy technologies and products and is expected to facilitate investments, technology partnerships, and international collaboration in India’s clean energy transition.
