₹47 Crore Lawsuit Of Akshay Kumar Movies Settles Out Of Court: Netflix-Pooja Entertainment Controversy Explained

Pooja Entertainment Vs Netflix: In 2024 the Vashu Bhagnani production house took on the streaming giant accusing them of non-payment of dues. After months of back and forth, both parties have reportedly reached a settlement. However, there is no official confirmation about the same.

Sources close to the producer have told Bollywood Hungama that the streaming giant has made an out-of-court deal with them. When the controversy first erupted, Netflix had refused all the allegations levelled by the production house. The OTT platform insisted that it is Pooja Entertainment who owes them money instead.

An insider in the know told the publication, “Both the parties agreed on a settlement. Netflix has paid the Bhagnanis a substantial amount to end the matter. The exact figure is only known to the head honchos but it is believed to be over Rs. 20 crores.” The source further said, “Both Netflix and Vashu Bhagnani-Jackky Bhagnani have now decided to make a fresh start and are hoping to have a great, long association with each other.”

In September 2024, Bollywood producer Vashu Bhagnani lodged a police complaint accusing Netflix India of cheating him to the tune of Rs 47.37 crore over film rights, a charge rejected by the leading OTT platform. According to the police official, the producer has claimed Netflix cheated him over the rights to his three recent Hindi films — Hero No 1, Mission Raniganj and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.

Bhagnani did not receive payments of Rs 47.37 crore which were due for these films from the streaming platform, he said, quoting the complaint. Meanwhile, Netflix rejected Bhagnani’s allegations and claimed it is Pooja Entertainment that owes them money. “These claims are completely unfounded — indeed it’s Pooja Entertainment that owes Netflix money. We have a strong track record of partnership with the Indian creative community and are working with the authorities to resolve this dispute,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement.
